Wedding Drinks

Deciding on a Cash Bar or Free Bar for your Wedding

In the past few years 9 out of ten weddings have been cash bars. Usually they have been toonie bars which help to cover the costs of alcohol and mix. Guests tend to drink less if they have to pay for their own and there is less, excessive drinking. Cash bars can relieve costs on your wedding budget and depending on your wedding venue, they will have some options for you and normally is placed in your venue contract.

If you don’t like the idea of your guests paying for all their drinks here are some options whether you are holding your wedding on a farm, a hall, or a 5 Star Venue:

  • Free wine on the table and at the bar

  • One or two drink tickets for each guest as they come or at their place setting.

  • Free bar for one hour before dinner and cash bar afterwards
    **Always offer free non-alcoholic drinks

Use our handy Alcohol Guest Consumption Calculator to find how much alcohol you need per guest and how much alcohol you need to order for your wedding.

Most importantly make sure you have liability insurance and be prepared for everyone to get a safe ride home. Stop serving alcoholic beverages at least an hour before reception is over.
